WR5G

Starter Kit for a Private 5G mmWave Base Station with Ultra-Precise Time Synchronization

IN PROGRESS

The WR5G project, commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA), validates ultra-precise time and frequency synchronization in private 5G mmWave networks (≥10 GbE) and enables seamless integration with 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).

The outcome will be a laboratory prototype of a 5G mmWave base station delivering improved coverage, ultra-low latency, and partial independence from terrestrial infrastructure — ensuring reliable connectivity even where traditional networks fail.

The Need

Demand for secure, high-performance wireless communication is rapidly growing, driven by IoT devices, industrial automation, and smart city systems. Conventional public networks often struggle to deliver sufficient throughput, resilience, and predictable performance in mission-critical environments.

Private 5G networks address these limitations by giving operators full control over infrastructure, security, and performance — enabling reliable, tailored connectivity exactly where and when it is needed.

The Solution:

WR5G integrates 5G mmWave technology with satellite communication (5G NTN), enabling advanced systems for:

• Industry and critical infrastructure

• Transportation and drones

• Smart cities and high-traffic environments (stations, airports, malls, campuses, museums) — anywhere that demands high bandwidth and precisely synchronized access points to ensure reliable device connectivity

The solution enhances coverage, reduces latency, and provides partial independence from terrestrial networks, which are prone to congestion, failures, or interference. The low cost of deploying 5G mmWave microcells allows connectivity in previously underserved or technologically excluded areas.

Project Objectives:

• Verify ultra-precise time and frequency synchronization in private 5G mmWave networks, enabling ≥10 GbE throughput with guaranteed low latency

• Validate integration with 5G NTN satellite communication

• Deliver a laboratory prototype of a 5G mmWave base station with ultra-precise time and frequency synchronization, compatible with 5G NTN satellite technology, based on solutions developed by Microamp Solutions and Creotech

• Achieve TRL 7 and prepare the solution for commercialization through integration into the partners’ product portfolios

The proposed technology also opens up opportunities for new applications, including 5G-based drone communication and management, as well as networks built on drones and HAPS platforms. This will enable the offering of ready-made starter kits specifically designed for these segments.

The project plans to launch a series of pilot deployments in Polish manufacturing and deep-tech companies, including for the project partners’ own use. Further implementations are planned in high passenger-traffic locations.

Projected first-year sales are 5–10 complete systems, with strong growth and scaling anticipated in the following years.
